This month Play Fitness proudly marked 17 years of creating exciting, engaging, and inclusive outdoor exercise and play spaces. Since our founding in 2008, our mission has remained the same: to put the play back in fitness and inspire people of all ages to enjoy moving in the great outdoors.
From our very first outdoor gym installation in a primary school in South Shields to the hundreds of playgrounds, parks, and recreational spaces we’ve helped transform, our journey has been one of growth, innovation, and community connection.
From Local Beginnings to International Reach
Our story began when our CEO Paul was inspired by the outdoor gyms in public spaces during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. After two years of planning, Play Fitness installed its first outdoor gym in South Shields - a proud moment in our hometown.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve installed equipment in over 500 locations across the UK, with many of our products now making their way to France and beyond thanks to our growing reseller network.
Reselling has become a big part of our growth story, allowing other companies to share our high-quality, British-designed outdoor fitness and play equipment with communities across the globe.
Expanding Our Product Range
Over the years, our product range has grown to include equipment for schools, parks, community centres, seafronts, and more. We specialise in inclusive, multi-generational outdoor equipment designed for everyone - from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to active older adults.
Some of our latest additions include:
Build a Trail for EYFS children.
New themed play units such as The Galleon and The Royal Fortress.
We’ve also continued to innovate our Outdoor Gym, Ninja Fitness, Functional Fitness, Play Units, and Climbing ranges, always responding to feedback from our customers.
Grateful for Our Schools & Communities
We are incredibly thankful to the many amazing schools we work with - a large number of whom are repeat customers. That loyalty speaks volumes about the relationships we’ve built and the quality of our products.
Over the years we've had the privilege of working with headteachers, PE leads, governors, PTA's and community decision makers who are passionate about creating engaging, inclusive spaces for their children, residents and visitors. These partnerships often turn into long term collaborations with schools and councils returning to us when they expand, upgrade or add new facilities.
In the past couple of years, we’ve also seen a welcome rise in Parish Councils investing in outdoor fitness equipment for their green spaces - a fantastic benefit for communities and something we are proud to support.
Our greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that children and adults love using our equipment. Seeing people move, play, and smile is what motivates us every day.
The Team Behind the Play
Most of our team have been with Play Fitness for many years, bringing a wealth of experience, skill, and passion to everything we do. Their dedication has been a huge part of our success and the reason we can deliver such high-quality products and service.
Our talented installation team do an amazing job bringing our playgrounds and outdoor gyms to life - working in all seasons, all weather, and all locations to make sure every project is finished to the highest standard. Their skill, attention to detail, and commitment to safety ensure that each installation is something we can all be proud of.
Behind the scenes and often out visiting projects our CEO Paul is the diving force. Always innovating and developing new ideas, Paul also takes the time to meet with schools, teachers and community decision makers to understand their needs and make sure every project delivers real benefits. His leadership and hands on approach ensure Play Fitness continues to grow, evolve and inspire active lifestyles in communities everywhere.
Our long-standing product designer continues to develop innovative playground projects and exciting new designs that keep us delivering fresh, creative and accessible outdoor play and fitness equipment.
Always Innovating
From day one, innovation has been at the heart of Play Fitness. We’re constantly designing, prototyping, and manufacturing new products in-house here in the UK, ensuring high quality and fast turnaround. As well as sourcing quality products from other suppliers, who we have a great relationship with.
We continue to improve older designs, make our equipment more accessible, and create unique, exciting play and fitness solutions for all ages.
